DOM Steel Pipe (ERW Cold Drawn Mild Steel Round Tube) for Precision Machinery

1. Material

This product—commonly referred to as DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) tubing—is a high-strength, precision round tube manufactured using a combination of electric resistance welding (ERW) and cold drawing over a mandrel. It’s typically fabricated from mild carbon steel grades such as SAE 1020, 1026, and in some cases ST52.3. 

2. Specifications

  • Manufacturing Process: Starts with an ERW "mother tube"; post-weld, the tube is cold-drawn over a mandrel to refine dimensional accuracy, wall thickness, and surface finish. 

  • Tolerance & Quality: This yields tight OD/ID control, uniform wall thickness, high concentricity, and weld integrity. 

  • Dimension Ranges: Common inventory spans OD 3/16" to 14", with wall thicknesses roughly 0.028" to 0.625". Standard lengths often range between 17–24 ft, with cut‑to‑length options available.

  • Standards: Usually made to ASTM A513 Type 5 for mechanical tubing.

3. Chemical Composition

6. Standards

  • ASTM A513 Type 5 (Mechanical Tubing) is the most common standard applied to domestic DOM tubing production. 

  • If produced in different markets, equivalents in EN, GOST, JIS or GB may apply, especially when using ST52.3 or other regional grades (not covered by the sources).
