Product Description

Inconel 718 Seamless Tube 1mm Wall Thickness UNS N07718 EN 2.4668

Inconel 718 Seamless Coiled Tube, 1 mm Wall Thickness, UNS N07718, EN 2.4668

Inconel 718 seamless coiled tube is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-based superalloy tubing product designed for applications requiring high strength, corrosion resistance, and reliable performance under elevated-temperature conditions. Manufactured in continuous coil form, this tubing can reduce the number of intermediate connections required in long tubing runs and is suitable for systems where compact storage, controlled routing, and continuous-length installation are important.

This product features a nominal wall thickness of 1.0 mm and is identified by UNS N07718 and European material number 2.4668. Its nickel-chromium-iron matrix, strengthened by niobium, molybdenum, titanium, and aluminum additions, provides a combination of mechanical strength and resistance to oxidation and many corrosive environments. The final properties depend on the manufacturing route, heat-treatment condition, tube dimensions, and applicable product specification.

Note: ASTM B983 covers specified high-strength seamless nickel-alloy pipe and tube, including UNS N07718. Compliance must be confirmed against the ordered grade, dimensions, delivery condition, and applicable edition. A 1.0 mm wall thickness alone does not establish compliance with every requirement of the standard.

2. Key Characteristics

  1. Precipitation-Hardening Capability: Alloy 718 can develop high strength through controlled solution treatment and aging. The specified heat-treatment condition is essential when determining final mechanical properties.

  2. Nickel-Chromium Corrosion Resistance: Its nickel content of 50–55% and chromium content of 17–21% contribute to resistance in many industrial environments. Suitability must be assessed against the actual medium, concentration, temperature, and exposure conditions.

  3. Elevated-Temperature Strength: Niobium-based strengthening, supported by molybdenum, titanium, and aluminum, enables the alloy to retain useful mechanical strength at elevated temperatures. Actual allowable operating conditions depend on stress, temperature, environment, and service life.

  4. Thin-Wall Tubing: The nominal 1.0 mm wall supports compact tubing designs where reduced wall thickness is permitted by the pressure design and applicable code.

  5. Coiled Delivery: Continuous coil form can reduce intermediate joints, simplify routing, and facilitate installation in compact equipment. Minimum bending radius, ovality, and springback should be evaluated against the specified outside diameter and installation method.

3. Our Advantages

1. Material Identification and Traceability

A material designation alone is insufficient to establish suitability for critical service. Procurement documentation should identify UNS N07718, the applicable product specification, heat-treatment condition, heat or lot number, and required test results. Material certification and traceability can be arranged according to the agreed order requirements.

2. Dimensional Control for Thin-Wall Coils

A nominal wall thickness of 1.0 mm requires attention to wall variation, outside diameter, ovality, and surface condition. Dimensional inspection requirements should be defined before production, with acceptance limits agreed between the purchaser and manufacturer. Coil handling and packaging should also minimize dents, scratches, and localized deformation.

3. Verification of Mechanical Properties and Service Suitability

Alloy 718 properties vary significantly with heat treatment and product form. Tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and hardness should therefore be assessed against the applicable standard and delivery condition rather than relying on generic alloy data. Where pressure service is intended, design calculations and appropriate testing must confirm suitability for the actual operating conditions.

4. Applicable Standards

  • ASTM B983: Seamless nickel-alloy pipe and tube in specified cold-worked and precipitation-hardened conditions.

  • ASTM B829: General requirements for seamless nickel and nickel-alloy pipe and tube.

  • ASTM E8/E8M: Tensile testing of metallic materials.

  • AMS 5589 / AMS 5590: Aerospace material specifications associated with Alloy 718 tubing; verify the exact product form and applicable revision before specifying.

  • EN 2.4668: European material number associated with Alloy 718; the material number alone does not establish product-standard compliance.

The selected standard must match the intended service, manufacturing process, and required delivery condition.

5. Application Field

Oil and Gas Industry — High-Pressure Instrumentation Tubing

Inconel 718 seamless coiled tube may be considered for high-pressure instrumentation and control systems where high mechanical strength, compact tubing routing, and resistance to demanding operating environments are required. The suitability of a 1.0 mm wall must be verified using the actual outside diameter, design pressure, temperature, fluid compatibility, fatigue requirements, connection method, and applicable engineering code. Alloy selection should not be treated as automatic approval for sour-service or other specialized environments.
