Product Description
Automotive Brake Tube Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe Brake Lines
Automotive stainless steel brake tubing product display
Automotive stainless steel seamless brake tubing is designed for rigid hydraulic brake-line systems where corrosion resistance, dimensional consistency, pressure integrity, and reliable flare formation are critical. Austenitic stainless steel grades such as TP304, TP304L, TP316, TP316L, and TP321 can be manufactured as cold-drawn seamless precision tubing, with 4.75 mm and 6.00 mm outside diameters being common brake-pipe dimensions.
For automotive brake-line projects, the stainless tube material specification and the brake connection specification should be considered separately. ASTM A269/A269M can be used to define stainless steel tube material and manufacturing requirements, while ISO 4038, ISO 13486-1, or DIN 74234 can be specified for applicable brake-pipe flare and connection geometry.

Main Features
High Corrosion Resistance
TP304 and TP304L contain approximately 18.0-20.0% chromium and provide good resistance to atmospheric moisture and general road environments.
TP316 and TP316L additionally contain approximately 2.0-3.0% molybdenum. The molybdenum addition improves resistance to localized corrosion compared with standard 304 grades, making 316-series tubing particularly suitable where brake lines are exposed to chloride-containing moisture and road de-icing environments.
Controlled Mechanical Strength
Under ASTM A269 requirements, typical minimum room-temperature tensile properties include:
  • TP304: minimum tensile strength 515 MPa and minimum yield strength 205 MPa
  • TP304L: minimum tensile strength 485 MPa and minimum yield strength 170 MPa
  • TP316: minimum tensile strength 515 MPa and minimum yield strength 205 MPa
  • TP316L: minimum tensile strength 485 MPa and minimum yield strength 170 MPa
  • TP321: minimum tensile strength 515 MPa and minimum yield strength 205 MPa
These values provide a controlled material basis for subsequent bending, routing, and end forming.
Suitable for Precision Brake-Line Forming
Cold-drawn seamless production provides continuous tube walls without a longitudinal weld seam. For brake-line fabrication, this helps maintain consistent circumferential behavior during bending and flare preparation.
Tube dimensions, material condition, and final flare geometry must nevertheless be matched to the applicable brake-system specification rather than evaluated from material grade alone.
Solution-Annealed Austenitic Structure
ASTM A269 austenitic grades are generally supplied after solution heat treatment. For TP304, TP304L, TP316, TP316L, and TP321, a minimum solution-treatment temperature around 1040°C is specified under ASTM A269 requirements.
This treatment restores corrosion-resistant austenitic structure and provides suitable ductility for subsequent fabrication.
Our Advantages
How Do You Control Tube Quality Before Brake-Line Flaring?
Professional brake-line buyers are concerned not only with nominal OD and wall thickness, but also with dimensional consistency, end condition, surface defects, and forming behavior.
We can control production around the customer's final flare and assembly requirements rather than treating the product as ordinary general-purpose tubing. OD, wall thickness, ovality, surface condition, end condition, and heat-treatment state can be specified on the purchase drawing.
For projects using standardized connections, the tube can be supplied for subsequent forming according to ISO 4038, ISO 13486-1, DIN 74234, or customer-specific automotive drawings.
How Is Material Traceability Controlled?
Each production lot can be linked to the corresponding heat number and material inspection records. Chemical composition and mechanical properties can be verified against the ordered stainless steel standard.
For automotive projects requiring controlled incoming inspection, documentation can include material grade, heat number, dimensions, test results, and inspection certification according to the agreed purchase specification.
Positive material identification can also be arranged when required.
How Do You Reduce Corrosion and Internal Cleanliness Risks?
Brake tubing is exposed externally to water, salts, mud, temperature cycling, and vehicle underbody contaminants, while its internal surface must remain clean for hydraulic service.
TP316 and TP316L can be selected when greater resistance to chloride-containing environments is required. Bright annealing, pickling/passivation, or specified surface cleaning can be used depending on the procurement requirement.
Tube ends can also be protected during packaging to reduce contamination by dust, metal particles, moisture, and foreign matter before brake-line fabrication.

Application
Passenger Car Hydraulic Brake Hard Line
The tube is used as the rigid hydraulic brake pipe connecting components such as the master-cylinder/ABS hydraulic unit and the wheel-end flexible brake hose.
For this application, 4.75 mm OD tubing is widely used in brake-line systems. The selected stainless steel tube is bent along the vehicle body and formed at the ends to match the specified brake fittings and flare seats.
Final brake-line suitability depends on the complete combination of tube dimensions, wall thickness, material temper, bending radius, flare configuration, fittings, proof pressure, burst pressure, cleanliness, and corrosion-validation requirements defined by the vehicle or brake-system manufacturer.
