ASTM B338 Gr2
ASTM B862 Grade 2 titanium tube is a commercially pure titanium tubular product designed for corrosion-resistant heat-transfer service, particularly in environments where seawater, chlorides, brine, wet chlorine, organic acids, or oxidizing media make stainless steel or copper-nickel unreliable. Grade 2 / UNS R50400 provides an optimal balance of corrosion resistance, formability, weldability, and moderate strength, with ASTM minimum tensile strength of 345 MPa, yield strength of 275 MPa, and elongation of 20% in the annealed condition.

| Buyer Concern | Our Practical Control |
|---|---|
| "Is ASTM B862 correct for a seamless heat exchanger tube?" | We prevent standard mismatch at quotation stage. ASTM B862 is for welded titanium pipe; if the buyer needs true seamless heat-exchanger tubing, we quote ASTM B338 or ASTM B861 together with Grade 2 / UNS R50400, wall basis, test method, and inspection scope. |
| "Will Grade 2 titanium survive chloride or seawater service?" | Grade 2 titanium is selected for chloride-containing environments, seawater cooling, brines, wet chlorine, and oxidizing media. It has strong resistance to general corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, erosion corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking. |
| "Can the tube be expanded into tube sheets without leakage risk?" | We control OD, wall thickness, annealing condition, surface cleanliness, and straightness. For tube-sheet expansion, a wall reduction of about 10% is used as a practical engineering reference for pull-out strength. |

Seawater-cooled shell-and-tube condenser tubing for coastal power plants.
Grade 2 titanium tube is used as condenser tube material where high-chloride seawater attacks stainless steel or copper alloy tubes. Its corrosion resistance allows stable heat-transfer operation, reduced leakage risk, and longer service intervals in cooling-water systems.
Reference grades commonly used in ASTM titanium tube specifications. Values are weight percent; titanium is balance unless otherwise stated.
